Arsenal are getting closer to extending Mikel Arteta contract with the club confident of finalising the deal according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Spaniard has only 12 months left on his current contract and the new deal reflects Arsenal faith in Arteta leadership and vision for the club.

This comes after two promising seasons where the Gunners narrowly missed out on the Premier League title so the club is keen to secure his stay.

Despite previous links to Barcelona Arteta was never tempted to return to Spain as he is committed to continuing his mission at the Emirates.
